Hello boys and girls,
I hope you are all doing good.
We are into the last few weeks of June, we are winding down with our work and we are preparing for the summer ahead.
I want you to do 2 things for me this week.
- I want you to take a walk in your local community (into town, or to the park, or down the lane). When you get back to the house, I want you to draw a picture of one thing that you saw on your walk of the local area. Please send me the picture and I will upload them next week.
- We will not be able to complete a Sports day this year but we are hoping to complete a virtual one in the next couple of weeks. I want you to practice the egg and spoon race and the sack race at home.
I will call during the week to see how you are all getting on. Chat soon 🙂

Junior 1 2019/2020 | Ms. Shields
COVID 19 Social Distance Learning: These past few weeks have been very tough for families and their children, but we’ve reached out to each parent to see how we can help during these challenging and difficult times.
While each child is different and requires individual tasks to keep them focused, I’ll be issuing fun and educational packs to each home in the coming days. The aim of these packs is to help bring some structure to your child’s daily life, but please do let me know if I can assist you with anything else.
Below are some ideas to help keep your child learning, while having fun for the next few weeks. Children love structure, so try to do this at the same time each day – whatever works for you. These times are difficult enough, so please, do not put pressure on yourselves to do any of these tasks, it’s just some ideas to help you if you need.
If you’ve any queries at all, you can reach me on shieldsmichelle@gmail.com and I’ll come back to you as soon as I can.
SCRAPBOOK
As you know, each week we send home a scrapbook to showcase our weekly work. However, we’re going to bring this online so the rest of the class can keep up-to-date with each of us. Please email me your photos and (or) description of what you’ve been doing these weeks. My email is shieldsmichelle@gmail.com.
Top Tip: We’d love to see any baking, art-work, writing, etc that you’ve been doing and any helping around home.
FUN THINGS TO DO
We know it can be a struggle to keep children entertained each day, so here are some things you can do:
Read With Your Child
Reading with children will continue to help them develop their oral language and they love looking at pictures. The below video will allow children to click and listen as the story is read to them.
Cook With Your Child
Not only is cooking with kids fun, but you can cook-up some tasty treats or simple lunches. Want a little challenge? Send us your pictures of buttering your own toast or bread.
Garden With Your Child
Getting fresh air on your daily walk is vital during these tough times. While you’re out for your daily exercise, take a picture with daffodils or any other flowers or greenery you see and send them to us.
Make & Create Things With Your Child
Arts and crafts is a great way to pass the time. The Junior 1 children are very creative and here’s a video of how to make some egg-citing Easter crafts! Top tip: remind the children that they used this video to draw polar bears and monkeys.
Sing & Dance With Your Child
Singing and dancing can be a lot of fun, espsecially if the kids have been cooped up! Check out www.gonoodle.com or find them on YouTube for some fun and easy dance moves. All our Junior 1’s are familiar with this and here’s a quick video of the chicken dance – they love it!
